Mercury Transits to Your Birth Chart (including Mercury Retrograde)

Mercury is the fastest planet in the solar system and relates to the speed of thought in the human mind. Mercury transits indicate shifts in your mental focus and attention. Thus, shifting the communications you give and receive.

Mercury will change zodiac signs every 3-4 weeks, therefore hitting a certain house in your birth chart for about a month, unless there is a retrograde mixed in. Mercury goes retrograde three times a year and during that time you will have an extra-long transit in a particular sign/house of your birth chart.

For example, Mercury is about to move into the sign of Aquarius on January 8th. Now, instead of Mercury moving onto Pisces in a few weeks it will station retrograde and go “backwards” through the sign on Aquarius. It will then station direct on February 20th and begin its movement forward again through Aquarius and eventually entering Pisces on March 15th. So, due to Mercury retrograde it will spend a total of 10 weeks in one sign, Aquarius.

Mercury retrograde transits usually indicate a slowing down and going inward period versus the typical Mercury expression of quick thoughts, communications, and actions.
